Special Visiting Students
 
 

Applicants who do not intend to study for a degree but plan to take only certain subjects for credits on a short-term basis, i.e., within one academic year, may be considered on an individual basis. Such applicants will be admitted if the Head of Department concerned is satisfied with their academic suitability for the subjects chosen and if there are vacancies in the class.

Local Applicants

A local applicant (with the right of abode in Hong Kong) who does not intend to study for a degree but plans to take only certain subjects for credit (not more than 11 units) may be considered on an individual basis and an undergraduate subject normally takes two to three units. Eligible applicants have to meet the University & Course Admission Requirements.

Independent Applicants

Overseas university students who do not have the right of abode in Hong Kong can apply for admission to the University as full-time visiting students for one or two semesters. To be classified as full-time students, a study load of not less than 12 units per semester is required.

Applicants should contact the International Office of the University directly for application. Though application can be made throughout the year, applicants are advised to submit application no later than early May and early October before the commencement of the semesters that they intend to begin study.

Required Documents

1.

Official academic transcript from your home institution

2.

A copy of your travel document containing your personal particular, its issuance and expiry dates. (For Chinese Mainland students, a copy both sides of your identity card is also required.)

Financial statements
As required by the Hong Kong Immigration Department, students must provide financial proof of adequate financial resources to support their study and living expenses while in
Hong Kong. Acceptable documents include copies of bank statements showing a balance of at least US$5,000 (or equivalent) per academic semester for international students or HK$25,000 (or equivalent) for Chinese Mainland student.
Notes: If you are not the account holder, please ask the account holder to write a statement declaring that he/she will financially support you during your study exchange at HKBU.

Three recent passport-size photographs (one for the enrollment application; one for the student visa application; one for the International Office)
- Not larger than
55 mm x 45 mm and not smaller than 50 mm x 40 mm;
- All of the same pose;
- Computer prints of photos acceptable

An official TOEFL/IELTS score report (if native language is not English)

Application materials should reach HKBU (International Office) by the following dates, so that there should be sufficient time for the admission process and processing of immigration visa.

Air condition expenses are extra and are not included in the accommodation fees above.

Air condition charges will run HK$39.00 (US$5.00) per day per room; HK$1,170.00 (US$150.00) per month per room. (Based on 24-hour usage and a shared-room basis, i.e., each roommate is expected pay half the amounts).
